Sedimentary Studio is a small-batch porcelain production by Melinda Zitnick. She handcrafts both functional as well as visceral porcelain wares. She focuses on vessels such as tumblers, jars, and sculptural vases. Slip casting is the main method used in her studio so that she can translate found objects such as brake rotors, beetle tracks, and more into porcelain. These objects she casts carry with them their own past lives and marked movements in a medium that is as strong as stone while holding a gentle luminescence. She also uses a technique in pouring her porcelain vessels that reveals an abstract landscape, completely unique to each object. The unpredictability of this technique allows each piece to have a life force of its own. She hopes through her practice of object making that others will hold them dear and reflect on their material as well as ethereal qualities.
